Info

The title of this work, Fuxico, refers to the bags of cloth sewn to form bags, bedspreads, etc., which are very common in the Brazilian Northeast. The process of composition of the work has similarities with the process of creation of the fuxico. In the fuxico the sachets are prepared in very different colors and patterns, but with the same shape, and then sewn. In the process of composing the work several sections were created with the same materials (as the fuxico format), and with different textures (such as color patterns). These sections were then “stitched together” resulting in Fuxico, op.9.

The composition was commissioned by the Group of Musical Interpreters of Bahia (GIMBa) to be presented on tour in the Brazilian Northeast in a project of Funarte. The work was presented in October / November 2010 in Itabaiana and Aracaju (SE), Maceió (AL), Recife (PE), João Pessoa (PB) and Salvador (BA), in Brazil. This composition is part of the album Fuxico, from GIMBa, which had its title inspired by the idea of this work.
